Putting the Pieces Together: A Smarter Approach to Insurance Marketing

Insurance marketing involves numerous interconnected elements. To achieve strategic sales and revenue goals, organizations must execute compliant, highly personalized campaigns and deliver seamless customer experiences across search, web, email, social media, and internal systems.

At IBAO 2026, we used a Rubik’s cube as the theme for our booth at #416. It was a fun conversation starter, but it also reflected something we see across the industry: while having the necessary elements, tools, and capabilities is essential, the true challenge lies in integrating them effectively to achieve a cohesive, successful outcome.

As insurance organizations plan for 2027, here is how implementing connected sales and marketing strategies can drive increased visibility, deliver stronger new business outcomes, and help bolster operational efficiencies.

1. Help customers find your expertise

Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) are rapidly becoming the new search. Customers are increasingly typing detailed, long-tail inquiries into AI platforms like Google, ChatGPT, Copilot, and Claude and this trend is expanding. This shift presents an immense opportunity for brokers and carriers to do what they do best: provide clear, authentic, and authoritative information to prospects and customers with endless insurance questions.

Start with the questions clients ask every day. What should someone consider when comparing coverage? What does a particular policy protect against? What should a business know before renewing its insurance policy for another year?

Clear, helpful content can answer these questions while building trust. Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) builds on this approach by making content easier for AI-powered search experiences to understand and potentially reference.

There’s no guaranteed formula for appearing in AI-generated answers. However, creating accurate, authoritative and educational content is a practical step towards helping customers find your organization when they’re looking for guidance.

2. CRM and marketing automation

Integrating your CRM/BMS with marketing automation creates a direct bridge between initial prospect engagement and revenue generation. By tracking leads throughout the entire lead-to-revenue journey, organizations can align sales and marketing efforts to nurture prospects with precision and measure true return on investment.

Smart automation enables tailored, highly personalized communications delivered at critical moments, from first inquiry through post-sale engagement – ensuring clients and brokers receive relevant information without manual overhead.

For carriers, smart automation and CRM tools unlock powerful co-selling opportunities with broker partners. Sharing insights, joint campaigns, and co-branded content helps brokers deliver hyper-personalized experiences to their clients while strengthening carrier-broker collaboration.

By equipping broker partners with automated, scalable marketing assets, carriers help brokers amplify their reach, build trust, and accelerate revenue growth together.

Ultimately, connected CRM/BMS and marketing automation platforms empower both internal sales teams and external broker partners to turn chaotic, inconsistent marketing into aligned support and growth.

3. Connect marketing activity to business results

Platforms like HubSpot can help bring campaigns, contact management, lead follow-up, and reporting into a more connected view.

But collecting marketing data is only part of the picture. Website visits, email engagement, and form submissions can indicate interest, but they don’t necessarily show which efforts contribute to qualified opportunities, quotes, bound policies and written premium vs revenue.

Connecting marketing activity with sales outcomes, where the necessary data is available, gives teams a clearer understanding of what’s working and where prospects may be dropping off.

This also requires agreement between marketing and sales teams on things like: lead management (input), sales qualification (quotes, closed won/lost), follow-up responsibilities, and deciding what success looks like.

The aim is to move beyond measuring activity and towards understanding business impact.

4. Look at the whole customer journey

Insurance relationships extend beyond the initial sale. From the first online search to onboarding, ongoing service, growth and renewal, each interaction shapes the customer experience. However, trying to solve the entire customer journey through connected experiences is a tall order. While mapping it out in a comprehensive plan is valuable, it is far more realistic to tackle one to three specific prongs of the customer journey and focus on solving those throughout 2027.

When marketing, sales, and service operate in silos, opportunities for meaningful business growth can be missed. We see this all the time. Your marketing might be performing exceptionally well, generating strong leads and engagement, but if sales response times are slow, pricing isn’t competitive, or the quoting engine and website experience create friction, those marketing results will never translate into actual revenue, especially if you’re not a well known brand.

It’s important to look beyond marketing performance and evaluate the entire customer journey, from lead generation through to sales, service and conversion experiences. Asking the right questions, identifying gaps, and understanding where opportunities are being lost are all critical to driving measurable business growth.

Sometimes the biggest improvement isn’t another campaign or platform. It might be a better handoff between teams, more relevant messaging, or simply a better, more enhanced user experience for the customer.

Our insurance marketing solutions explore how strategy, technology, and customer engagement can work together to support that experience.

5. What should you prioritize for 2027?

Planning for the year ahead doesn’t have to start with a major technology investment. Start by identifying where things are working well and where they’re getting stuck.

Consider five questions:

  • Search & Visibility: Are we leveraging Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) so AI platforms and search engines answer prospects’ long-tail questions with our authoritative content?
  • CRM & Automation: Is our CRM/BMS connected to marketing programs to streamline lead-to-revenue programs or power co-selling efforts with broker partners?
  • Business Impact: Do we truly understand what goes into measuring lead-to-revenue performance, and can we connect marketing efforts directly to quote volumes, bound policies, and written premium?
  • Customer Journey Focus: Have we identified 1 to 3 key prongs of the customer journey to refine and optimize in 2027?
  • Connected Strategy: Are sales and marketing teams aligned on handoffs, critical data points, qualification criteria, and shared goals to ensure leads translate into actual revenue and that this path is entirely visible?

Bringing the pieces together

Our Rubik’s cube at IBAO was a reminder that complexity doesn’t mean you need to start over or buy more. Sometimes, the pieces are already there. They simply need to work together better.

At Goose Digital, we’re more than a marketing partner. We’re a strategic partner that understands insurance, the complexities of the industry, and the challenges that come with driving meaningful growth. We work alongside your team to navigate those challenges, tackle the tough questions, and turn what might feel like mountains into opportunities for progress and measurable results.

If you’re planning for 2027 and considering how to get more from your marketing, improve CRM and BMS connectivity, or better understand your results, we’d be happy to give your plans a second pair of eyes.
